What we do
what we do
YWCA Northampton
YWCA Northampton works with young women to build their confidence and gain new skills. We encourage them to take part in events, campaigns, try new things, make decisions and share their opinions.
YWCA Northampton is based in the town centre but we also work at community centres, youth clubs and schools throughout the county including Corby and Wellingborough.
We offer:
- Courses specifically for young mums and pregnant teenagers. We teach parenting skills and offer support, information and the chance to get their work accredited.
- Accredited informal education programmes. In a relaxed atmosphere girls and young women learn literacy, numeracy, IT and computer training, money management and useful life skills. We offer City & Guilds qualifications in maths and English.
- 'Drop-in' sessions where girls can talk one-to-one and in confidence with a project worker.
- Group sessions, which can be arranged whenever and wherever they’re needed. Here young women learn about parenting, healthy eating, diet and exercise, sexual health and relationships, alcohol and drugs.
- Information and support about education, training, skills and jobs.
We have fun and build confidence using a wide range of activities, including working together on projects and arts and crafts.
In 2008 we were awarded the Silver Youth Chartermark, a quality standard awarded by Northamptonshire Youth Council to demonstrate levels of youth involvement.
