what we do

YWCA London West

young woman in deprived areaYWCA London West is based in Ealing but we also work at community centres, youth clubs and schools throughout West London including Acton, Northolt, Southall and Harrow.

YWCA London West is the only centre to offer such a wide range of youth work activities for women-only in the borough.

We offer:

  • courses specifically for young mums and pregnant teenagers. We teach parenting skills and offer support, information and the chance to get their work accredited.
  • accredited informal education programmes, including our own, Wise Up.  In a relaxed atmosphere young women learn literacy, numeracy, IT, money management and useful life skills.
  • information, guidance and encouragement for girls stay in education or go on to further training. Many girls find the transition between primary and secondary school, college, training or the outside world extremely difficult; without support they may drop out.
  • health ‘drop-in’ sessions in local schools.
  • group sessions where young women learn about healthy eating, diet and exercise, safe sex and sexual health, alcohol and drugs, and get the support and encouragement they need to stop smoking.
  • opportunities to get involved with campaigns and volunteering.

group of young womenWe have fun and build confidence using a wide range of activities including residential visits and creative media such as film-making, art and dance.
